“Why do fascists fear teachers?” Josh Yeh, CTA regional rep, asked at the opening of his presentation at the Windsor Democratic Club meeting Tuesday, November 16. Because teachers teach empathy, critical thinking and honest history. What fascists most fear is a well-education populace.
We have three avenues to fight back, Yeh said, the courts, the ballot box and the streets.
Litigate, litigate, litigate, Ever Flores, NEA national lobbyist, later added. File injunction after injunction. We must fight for the Poetry of the Constitution.
The Working Families Party is committed to transforming the Democratic Party into a true Democratic Socialist party on the model of Mamdani and Bernie Sanders, Marty Bennett, organizer for Unite Here! Local 2, told club members. We want to go back to 1936 to restore the pro-labor and anti-poverty programs of Roosevelt’s New Deal.
Pat Sabo, chair of the Sonoma Democratic Party, thanked the Windsor Democratic club for its support for Proposition 50. Rick Massell was the party’s top canvasser.
Enjoy the victory, Sabo said, but keep moving forward as well. Progressive candidates need to be elected to undo all the bullshit that’s been heaped on us. You can tear down a city block in two days, but it can take years to rebuild.
The next meeting of the Windsor Democratic Club will be held on, Tuesday December 16, 6:30-8:30 at Windsor Round Table Pizza, 8499 Old Redwood Highway. Damon Connolly will talk about his candidacy for State Senate District 2. Tyler Wilson, candidate for the recently redrawn California Congressional District 1 will also speak.
Dues for 2027 are due January 1. Members are encouraged to pay early to help support the club’s continued work.
And don’t forget the Sonoma County Democratic Party crab feed at Graton Casino this February.
